Anti-bullying policy review questions for NI schools

Northern Ireland schools need anti-bullying policy language that staff can apply, pupils can understand and parents can follow when a concern is raised.

Questions about definitions

Does the policy explain repeated behaviour, impact and power imbalance in language staff can use with pupils? Does it include online behaviour where it affects school life? Can pupils and parents understand the difference between conflict, unkind behaviour and bullying behaviour?

Questions about reporting

Can pupils name who to speak to? Can parents see how to raise a concern? Do staff know where to record information and who needs to be informed after a report?

Questions about follow-up

Does the policy explain how the school checks whether behaviour has stopped? Is there a review point after an incident? Are pupil voice and parent communication built into the process?

Questions before Anti-Bullying Week

Does campaign messaging match policy language? If the assembly tells pupils to speak up, does the policy make that route clear and believable?

Use the NI Anti-Bullying Policy Checklist for a more structured review.
